What are the advantages of a slot CPU system over a mainboard system?
All functions of a mainboard system are concentrated on a single, firmly installed PCB. In contrast, in a slot CPU system the PC´s "intelligence" in the form of a so-called slot CPU card is attached to a passive backplane which is installed in the housing. This allows a quick change during service. A further advantage is more space in the housing, so that up to 14 PCI or ISA slots, respectively, can be provided on the backplane.
