IP Protection Classes
„Ingress Protection“
Systems are divided into categories depending on their suitability for different environmental conditions. These protection classes are called IP codes. Pursuant to DIN, the abbreviation IP stands for „International Protection“, it is however used for „Ingress Protection“ in English-speaking areas. The IP Protection Classes are recorded in DIN EN 60529 titled „Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP code)".
The letters „IP“ in the IP codes are always followed by a two-digit number. This number indicates the protection degree of an enclosure with respect to contact or foreign bodies (first digit) and humidity (second digit)
